Hey,
"I'm shadow banned!"
No you're not.
Your content just isn't good enough.
Let me explain.
What People Think Shadow Banning Is:
Instagram is hiding their content from followers.
The algorithm hates them specifically.
They're being punished for no reason.
What's Actually Happening:
Instagram shows your post to a small test group.
If they don't engage Instagram doesn't push it further.
That's not a shadow ban.
That's the algorithm doing its job.
How to Test If You're Actually Shadow Banned:
Post a story asking people to comment "HERE" on your last post.
If people can see it and comment you're not shadow banned.
If nobody can see it or comment you might actually have an issue.
99% of the time? People can see it.
They just don't care enough to engage.
Why Your Content Isn't Being Pushed:
Low watch time on Reels.
Low swipe-through rate on carousels.
Boring hooks that don't stop the scroll.
No engagement bait in captions.
Content that doesn't trigger emotions.
The Real Problem:
You're comparing your performance to your old performance.
"I used to get 10k views now I get 2k!"
The algorithm didn't change.
Your audience got tired of your content.
You're posting the same format over and over.
They've seen it before.
They scroll past.
The Solution:
Change your content format.
If you've been posting carousels switch to Reels.
If you've been posting tips switch to stories.
If you've been posting motivational switch to educational.
Refresh your content strategy.
The Exception:
If you've been violating community guidelines you might actually have restrictions.
Check your Account Status in settings.
If it shows violations your reach is limited.
Fix the violations and wait 30 days.
But most people have zero violations.
They just want an excuse for why their content isn't performing.
Stop blaming the algorithm.
Start making better content.
