The Template:
"Hey [Name], love your content on [specific topic].
I run [your page] in the [niche] space with [follower count].
I'm doing a collaboration series on [topic] and think your audience would love it.
Would you be open to creating something together? I'm thinking [specific format].
Let me know!"
Why This Works:
Personalized (you mentioned specific content).
Shows your credibility (your stats).
Clear value proposition (collaboration series).
Specific ask (not vague).
The Breakdown:
Line 1: Compliment + specificity.
Don't say "love your content"
Say "love your recent post about AI caption tools"
Shows you actually follow them.
Line 2: Introduce yourself.
Who you are.
Your niche.
Your follower count (if similar to theirs).
Line 3: The value proposition.
What's in it for them?
"Collaboration series" sounds more official than "wanna collab?"
Line 4: Specific format.
"I'm thinking a joint carousel where we each contribute 5 slides"
Not vague.
Shows you've thought this through.
Line 5: Easy close.
"Let me know!" is low pressure.
Not "Yes or no?"
Gives them space to respond.
The Timing:
DM them right after they post.
They're active.
More likely to respond.
The Follow-Up:
If no response in 3 days:
"Hey [Name], following up on my last message. Would love to explore this if you're interested. No worries if not!"
One follow-up only.
Don't spam.
Who to DM:
Pages with similar follower count (±50%).
If you have 10K don't DM someone with 500K.
They won't respond.
The Niche Match:
Must be in the same or adjacent niche.
Don't DM a fitness page if you're in finance.
No overlap = no value for their audience.
The Collaboration Ideas:
Joint carousel (each contribute slides).
Interview-style Reel (you ask them questions).
Takeover (you post on their page they post on yours).
Shoutout exchange (both promote each other).
The Mutual Benefit:
Make it clear what they gain.
"Your audience gets [X] my audience gets [Y]"
Not one-sided.
Common Mistakes:
Being too vague ("wanna collab?").
No personalization (mass DM).
DM-ing people way bigger than you.
Not following up.

Generic DM: 10% response rate.
